I played competitive rugby for 15 years, playing at the highest level alongside and against some of the best players in the country. I won at every level I played at and picked up tons of accolades along the way, including captaining many select sides and teams at the Mens Club level.
While often undersized I improved my athletic performance and play through the use of visualization, meditation, and breathwork techniques. It was through these techniques that I was able to bridge the gap between my athletic performance and my mental performance. The work and focus I put towards my mental skills allowed we to compete and achieve all I did while I was playing.
While sports and rugby was my main focus and identity throughout my life, when I injured my shoulder I lost my identity and who I was to my core. I became a shell of myself. I didn't know how to cope with losing the athlete side of who I was.
I spiraled into a depressive state trying to rebuild my foundation and my identity. I dealt with anxiety and the constant what if questions trying to overthink and analyze everything. I become way too familiar with panic and anxiety attacks and continued to see myself lose my purpose.
I felt alone and lost and scared.
Eventually, I saw the answer. My years of training my brain
Today I work with high school athletes to provide them with skills and tools to improve their mental performance and in turn elevate their athletic ability, taking their game to the next level. The skills I teach and embody and use in my coaching also benefit athletes for a life beyond sport or being able to manage struggles and stresses they may go through on a daily basis. I know what it is like to feel hopeless and alone. I know what it is like to lose our identity.
But I also know that we can build a strong foundation so if that does happen we are resilient and strong in our ability to bounce back.
When we focus beyond just the sport and develop the whole athlete these players gain skills that are applicable to life once they move on from sports and find their next adventure to take. The skills and tools I provide are useful in improving athletic performance but will have long lasting affects that help athletes once they move onto the real world.
I help build better athletes. Build better men. And in turn a better society.

Opening on how to change to conversation around mental health and helping others find their spark
