Exude and Embody
The other week I wrote about desired feelings and how I want to feel this year. In theory it is a great goal setting technique, it’s a great way to check into our environment and to see if the way we are living is aligned to those desired feelings. But the more I think on it the more I realize there is a part missing to this desired feeling. The part missing is that in order to experience that feeling you need to exude and embody that feeling in your life and how you live.
It is not enough to say “I want to experience Joy” and then not show that in your own life. It’s the same reason you should probably not share your big goals with anyone you meet. When you share your goals and dreams with others you get a nice little hit of dopamine and excitement that comes with sharing the goal. So instead of doing the hard, boring work to achieve the goal, you tell more people and get more dopamine from the idea of sharing what you are going to do. It’s the same thing with our desired feelings.
We can’t just say we want to experience something and then not show it in our life. If we want to experience Joy we need to exude and embody joy in what we do. We can’t just expect to experience this feeling if we don’t live it ourselves. If we want to be a curious person and don’t be curious about the world around you, what you are doing, exploring your interests, then you aren’t embodying that feeling.
Once we start to embody that feeling and show it outwardly to the world, the world will in turn give it back to you. The more curiosity or joy you embody the more opportunities will present themselves that align with those feelings. Once we make the intentional decision to live in a certain way, to experience a certain thing, and embrace it all it starts showing up more in our life. But we can’t just passively wait to feel curious or joyful or proud. We have to chase those feelings. We have to do the work to embody and exude what it means to live those feelings.
Passively waiting for the right moment isn’t how we get there, as I’ve mentioned a couple times before. Actively living and knowing what we want to experience and feel will start the chain reaction for that feeling to continuously show up in our life. Once you consciously make the decision to exude and embody a certain feeling it keeps showing up and allows you to better achieve the goals and desires you have laid out in front of yourself.
