Finding your Spark

Keeping things a bit shorter this week. If you know me or have been around for a while you know I love my metaphors and allusions towards light and finding our own potential. I have written before about finding the spark inside our own soul and to stop chasing the external accolades and achievements. It’s one thing to talk about it, but I truly try to live my life in that way.

I have been distracted and pulled in by the spotlight and chasing external validation and the only thing that did for me was want to chase more spotlights and more validation. The truth is we need to have our own guiding light, we need to have the fire come from within. Because if we have the fire and spark come from within we don’t need to chase something else to feel the light and warmth.

If we trust and follow our own spark we truly start doing things for ourselves. We start to be more authentic. We start to be more deliberate and intentional with our actions. We truly start to create the world and life we want to live. I have written a lot of previous posts about how our internal thoughts influence our actions which influence our reality. So if our internal thoughts are guided by our own internal light, our own internal spark then we can create a reality that is in line with that thought.

When we chase the spotlight or the big achievement our thoughts and actions are in line with chasing that, with comparing and trying to keep up to others. Our own spark dies in the pursuit of the spotlight, an artificial light. Being able to harass and understand our own light gives others the permission to do the same.

My friend likes to reference the quote “a thousands of candles can be lit by a single candle, and the life of that candle isn’t shortened. Happiness never decreases from being shared.” The same thing can be applied to how we live our life. If we constantly chase the spotlight we are trying to share our achievements with others, but if we shine our own light and choose what we want rather than those accolades or titles put on us by those around us we start to live a happier life. Furthermore, we are then able to use our light to light someone else’s candle and help them to chase their internal flame.

When we chase our internal flame we inadvertently go back to who we were as a kid. Being playful, creative, curious, and so much more. A simple act can bring us back and help us celebrate ourselves.

Chase your light and give others permission to do the same. Step out of the shadow of your life and start living it proudly
