Rise Above the Status Quo
Last week I wrote on manifesting our life and how we are the ones in charge of shaping our reality. I’m really happy with that post but the more I thought about it the more I realized there is something more that needs to be talked about. In order for us to rise above and change our reality we must rise above the status quo and exceed our comfort zone if we truly want to manifest the life we want.
American Rock band Kansas said it best in their song "Carry on my Wayward Son: “Once I rose above the noise and confusion / just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion.” We need to rise above the chaotic noise and confusion of our daily life and beyond the illusion of what others want for us. It is not enough for us to live day by day in our comfort zone doing things we are merely just good at. We need to rise above the expectations of what others what and expect from us and start to do the things that allow us to be the highly transformed people we are meant to be.
People expect us to act and do things in a certain way. So many people have seen and gotten to know different versions of us and they expect that version to show up. When we change and level up to the next version of ourselves we confuse and alienate those around us. The person that they know goes away and sometimes their presence reminds us of who we used to be but that is not who we are now. Reverting back to that version, while it may be fun, is reverting back to our comfort zone and safety. We need to push that comfort zone, we need to be uncomfortable with change and growth, we need to rise above the expectations that others have bestowed upon us.
In truth, we do not owe anything to anyone else. The only thing we owe anything to is ourselves and we our doing ourselves a disservice by not breaking the status quo. We are all meant for something great. We are all meant to be more than fine. We all deserve to be vibrant, magical, and joyful. We all deserve lives that allow us to feel that way. But the only way that we can get there is if we break away from the comfort of living things we are merely good at. We need to do great things. We are all capable of producing a Great Work. It does not need to rival Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel or Homer’s Odyssey but it needs to be something that you can call your own and know that you fully show up in.
Know what you are capable of, know what your greatness is and find the way to rise above the status quo and comfortability of life to go out and chase it. The only way we get there is by expanding our comfort zone but exploring into the unknown and fear. Because at worst you fail, but when you get there you get to achieve and make the mark with your gift that you are here on this planet to provide. We are all meant for more and just going through the motions of life doing things we are good at won’t get us there. We need to do more. We need to push the limit. We need to break free of the illusions and expectations that others put on us and become the version of ourselves that has risen above the noise and confusion of daily life to get there. Maybe you lose friends along the way. Maybe you gain new ones. But the one thing I know for sure is that you will start living with purpose and living the life that is meant for you. One that allows you to fully show all your gifts.
It is time to rise above. It is time to break the glass ceiling of what people think we are capable of and start living with a little swagger and knowing what we are a master of.
