Trust and Surrender - Finding Flow through letting go.
If you’ve spent time around the self development space you have probably heard of the concepts of flow and surrender. While they are oftentimes thought of as different, they are in fact very aligned and related to each other.
Generally, the concept of surrender is giving all we have to a given moment and trusting what we put into a moment. It is not waiving the white flag and giving up. Instead it is giving fully to a moment. When we give 100% of our attention and focus towards something we can be proud of the result we achieved because we know we fully showed up and didn’t leave anything left on the table. We give it our all, knowing we did the preparation for the moment and whatever happens, happens. We do not try to force and control an outcome. We just focus on what we can control and trust that it will work out.
This concept is extremely powerful and can help us find alignment in life. By surrendering to the moment we just have to trust ourselves. Surrendering isn’t just surrendering to a moment and saying “whatever happens” but more so it's the understanding that you did everything you could to be prepared for a moment and you get nowhere by controlling the situation. Let it happen and just see the beauty in life.
This concept pairs perfectly with the concept of flow. Flow is what happens when we are fully immersed in an experience or activity. The concept of time drifts away and we just become focused on what we are doing. We are not distracted by the outside world.
When we enter these flow states we stop trying to control it all and like when we surrender to a moment we just let it happen. These flow states and being able to surrender allows us to appreciate the world around us in a different way.
As we let go of control, our clarity and concentration increases and we can let our intuition take over. Enter these flow states and surrendering to the moment allows us to just react. If we prepare well enough and trust ourselves we end up not forcing it. Many athletes talk about flow states as them just reacting subconsciously to the game and trusting their training and practice to make the right play in the moment, rather than overthinking and forcing something.
When we force something or try and take control we aren’t able to enjoy what we are doing. If we aren’t enjoying what we are doing it becomes a chore, there is no joy in a chore. But when we let go and enjoy it all we find our upper limit and our true potential. Flow and surrender are hard and difficult concepts to master but there are ways to tap into them and learn what it feels like to let go and unlock that higher version of ourselves.
Flow and surrendering to a moment allows us to fully trust our gifts and skills and to truly step into your capabilities and strengths. You’ve done it before so why are you getting so worried about it now, trust yourself and see what happens. Flow and surrender are ways to tap into our intuition and just appreciate the world for a moment.
