Spirituality
Everything that I’ve written over the last little bit from masculine and feminine energy, to understanding our nervous system, to what it means to live as our highest self has led to this; an understanding of spirituality and putting all these concepts together.
There is a big misconception around spirituality, that it is a deviation and watered-down form of religion. The truth is, that is a misnomer and a way to steer people away from understanding their spirituality, connection to each other, and our place in the universe. Spirituality, like religion, focuses on the pursuit of a higher power, meaning, purpose, and connection that goes beyond just the individual. While religion focuses on organized and consistent beliefs and practices across a community in relation to a specific deity, Spirituality focuses on the individual's understanding and connection to a higher power. At the end of the day spirituality is a way to connect deeper to ourselves and to find purpose and meaning in life.
Spirituality is the deep dive and understanding of learning about all that we have experienced to live the life we are meant to live. We are all meant and capable of greatness. It is within all of us, not just some of us and understanding ourselves at a higher level allows us to achieve that greatness. Spirituality is the practice and focus that allows us to achieve that result. Spirituality is the combination of what I have discussed in the past but in a focused and practiced way for us to grow, gain self-awareness, and inner peace in our life.
As we grow, gain self-awareness and find that inner peace for our life we find satisfaction. We take the steps and leap into the unknown down the path of our soul and heart’s calling. This first step into the unknown is usually what a lot of people talk about when they refer to their spiritual awakening. The truth is this is just us coming back home to ourselves. It is the journey of finding a healthy relationship with ourselves; healing and forgiving ourselves for what we may have done in survival mode and reconnecting to the spark in our soul. The spark that was there since we were all children.
This connection back to ourselves allows us to reconnect to our inner child. A coach and my very good friend Nikki, always talks about how children are the greatest expression of ourselves because they do what they do for joy’s sake. They aren’t scared by social norms or are judgmental, they just do what they feel called to do. Their beliefs come solely from their soul, they aren’t told what to do or who to be by others or society. They just act how they feel called too. The beauty of spirituality is that it is an individualized journey to rediscover this spark we had as a child. The spark to be playful, fun, and creative - to be a full expression, to be fully vibrant. If you aren’t familiar with Nikki, you should check her out here.
But beyond the connection back to our child-like self and child-like wonder for the world, spirituality gives us the freedom to explore ourselves deeper. To fully look internally and understand what we truly are capable of. That greatness that is within all of us needs to be discovered and explored. So many of us live lives of dissatisfaction that we forget about our soul’s path and our own heart. That first step into self-discovery can give you that. It’s a big reason I have this blog and I do the things I do. It is an expression back to my younger self, living uninhibited by the expectations of others and chasing the things that set my soul on fire.
But beyond the self-discovery process there is the connection back to ourselves and our personal power. Lots of spiritual practices and teachers talk about energy. And I have talked about energy before, but it is not an arbitrary thing. We are all energetic beings. If we want to create a life and manifest it in a certain way we need to start acting in that way and we will attract that outcome. If we think positively, positive actions will follow. If we think and act negatively, negative results will follow. The energy and intentions we put into the world have merit. Observing those negative thoughts and cleansing ourselves of them allows us to focus back to the positives and attract the life and people that we want.
This connection to energy is further explored through the healing practice of Reiki. Reiki is a healing modality to help realign and re-center the body and mind. It focuses on the seven energy centers of the body that run up and down our body. These energy centers relate to specific areas of our lives and the imbalance of one or a few may cause disruption in our own lives. Reiki healing isn’t just having someone do a session with you and then you walking away healed. Like many spiritual practices it needs a person to put the work in and process what they are experiencing in order to fully heal. It is not enough to just do a Reiki session and expect your world to be better. It is the same thing with meditation, doing a meditation to do a meditation is just a chore. You need to implement and work on what you learned during the session into your life to truly see the benefits.
All of these spiritual practices and understandings lead us to the most important thing: you. Your relationship with yourself is vital, it is the relationship you’ve had the longest. It is the one you have when no one else is in the room, so you better make it a good one. These practices and understandings allow us to come back to self. To love ourselves and give us a better connection to ourselves and what we are capable of. When we fully show up for ourselves we can then fully show up for others and have the impact we want on the world. We can’t pour from an empty cup and if we keep trying we are going to be drained and unable to have the impact we want on the world. Spirituality allows us that. It allows us to see our power and potential and who we are meant to be so that we can be who the world needs us to be. The individualized process of spirituality allows us to become better connected to ourselves and for each of us to have our own unique journey.
