Understanding your Energy
Over the past couple of weeks I have been talking about the idea of energy and nervous system regulation; what we put our focus on and how we can tap into it to elevate our life to create the life we desire. And while it is important to understand what our peak performance is, who we surround ourselves with, and what situations we put ourselves in that reflect our highest self. We still must understand how our energy shows up in certain situations and what we are naturally inclined and drawn towards and how to hone it.
That brings us to the connection of masculine and feminine energy. These are the forces and energetic pulls that affect our personality and help us feel connected to our work and the world. These energies are not exclusive to gender and are expressed by everyone. Some of us have a higher affinity towards one energy or the other, which becomes our dominant energy. However, only tapping into our dominant energy means that we never fully connect to ourselves. We need to balance between both the masculine and feminine energies if we want to elevate our lives and manifest the life we truly want.
Masculine Energy is the energy associated with action and logic and structure. It is the ability to see a problem and execute a solution. It is finding patterns and presenting ideas and getting things done. It is strength and assertiveness. Masculine energy helps us create our relationship with ourselves. It is the confidence and trust we have to do what we believe in because we know we internally have the capabilities to succeed. It is the leadership to say what needs to be done and actually following through to see it to completion. Masculine energy does not need approval or validation from anyone besides ourselves. The approval or validation or affirmation from someone else is nice but true masculine confidence comes from inside.
Meanwhile Feminine energy is associated with creativity and connection towards others. If masculine energy is internally focused, feminine energy is externally focused. It is the ability to adapt to change. Feminine energy is the focus on being. It is the vulnerabilities and expressions of our soul, whether receiving from others or expressing ourselves. Feminine energy is having the emotional intelligence and knowledge of how to react to a certain situation.
However, these energies and frequencies can’t be isolated from each other. There needs to be a balance, a duality, and interplay between the two. Excess of either leads to an imbalance in ourselves and inability to fully show up. Excess masculine energy shows up as boastful and arrogant and controlling; trying to show that they are the best or belong everywhere even when their underlying talents would say otherwise. Meanwhile, excess and imbalanced feminine energy leads towards taking on everyone’s emotions, being unfulfilled because you are always trying to please others, and being scared of routine and structure.
The two energies need to be balanced. Each of us has a natural equilibrium of the two energies for us to best show up. Some of us have a natural feminine energy while others have more dominant masculine energies. Understanding what energy is at our core is important but we need to be able to balance both together if we want to succeed and create the life we desire. If we are more dominant with our masculine energy we still need to find time to tap into our feminine and be creative and playful and fun, if not then we will never get our of our head with all our ideas. We become stagnant with our masculine energy and become unfulfilled and directionless. Likewise if we are feminine energy dominant we need to find confidence from ourselves and not rely on others. We need to take on leadership roles and set hard boundaries so we don’t take everything on from everyone and become destructive with our emotions.
Understanding how to balance your feminine and masculine energies allows us to be fully open and connected to the world around us. It allows us to tap into our highest self and build deep relationships and accept ourselves and our skills and how to best implement them in our lives. This full capacity to give and receive and lead allows us to love fully and to enter our optimal level of performance and live in a rest and digest state.
