What’s your Superpower?
I was at an event the other day and there was a question posed about what is your superpower. What is the thing that makes you unique and how often do you use it in your professional or even personal life? It’s an interesting question, but it allows us to step away for just a second and evaluate what we have done our whole life, what we have done at a high level, and how that shows up in what we are doing today. It’s an exercise that allows us to see ourselves for who we really are, not who others told us to be. Sometimes it leads to the realization that what we are doing and the path we are walking isn’t for us. However we look at it though, tapping back into our superpower is how we elevate our way of life.
My whole life I’ve been a supporter, I’ve been a helper. That’s been my superpower. But it is much more than that. It’s not just me asking someone if they need help, it’s me seeing a friend who’s a little underwater and doing something to help make their life easier. It was me back in my playing days of just running support line after support line to help my teammates get in a position to be successful. That was the unique skill I brought to the team. It helped us take our collective game to the next level and be successful and competitive against nationally ranked teams.
However, my superpower is more than just being a supporter. It’s the unique skillset of supporting those around me, letting them know it is safe, and being vulnerable. My vulnerability and comfort in being vulnerable - whether opening up about my own personal mental health struggles, or just letting them know they have a friend and a supporter. It’s my love for creating community and letting people fully express themselves. I allow others to feel comfortable by leading from the front and modeling the behavoir that I feel can help others be the most authentic expression of themselves. I try to live my superpower every day and create a life where it can flourish and it isn’t something that becomes lost in the cobwebs of my soul.
So the important question becomes this: What is your superpower, what is the gift you’ve had since you were a friend and where does it show up in life? Once you find that and find that spark that makes your life feel more alive how do you continue to live it so your life becomes more fulfilled. Life isn’t just your job or career it is the full expression of life that allows you to fully express every part of you. Find it. Cherish it. Chase it. Find your superpower and your next level.
